Happy Birthday to Jonathan Gould who turned 48 today. Goalkeeper Jonathan gained two caps for Scotland during his spell with Celtic. Gould qualfied for a Scotland cap through his grandparents who came from Blantyre. His father Bobby was a well known striker in the English First Division in the sixties and seventies and although never capped for England, he did at one point manage Wales.
Jonathan was third choice goalkeeper for Scotland at the 1998 World Cup and is pictured here commiserating with Jim Leighton after the game with Morroco.
As for Jonathan he would receive his first cap in a Euro Qualifier against Lithuania at home in October, 1999 which Scotland would win 3-0 with goals from Don Hutchison, Gary McSwegan and Colin Cameron. His only other appearance was in a friendly at Hampden in November, 2000. It being a friendly at Hampden in this period meant we lost, 2-0 to Australia. He would soon fade from the International scene until a call up as a Preston North End player for the Euro play offs against Netherlands in 2003 but remained on the bench once more, as back up to Rab Douglas who had ousted him at Celtic previously.
Happy Birthday Jonathan and all the best.
