Happy Birthday to Big Ron Yeats who turned 79 today. Ron played over 450 games for Liverpool and was Captain for the majority of his time with the club. However, he was only capped twice for Scotland, in a 3-2 defeat to Wales in Cardiff in October, 1964 and a World Cup Qualifier defeat to Italy in Naples. In Italy Jock Stein apparently gave Ron the Number 9 jersey to mislead the Italians into thinking he was playing upfront.
The photo is from Ron’s season with the American Soccer League side Los Angeles Skyhawks and a such will find its way into the Scotland Players Abroad section of our website.
