Happy Birthday WGS

Gordon Strachan was 58 on February 9th 2015, so all at the Scotland Epistles would like to wish him all the best. What better way to celebrate this than a card, although in this case not a Birthday one. The card below is what the Americans would call his ‘rookie’ card, Gordon’s first appearance in football cards in season 1975/76 or the Topps Scottish pink / grey set as sad bores like me know it as.  Gordon has just started his career at Dundee and the card describes his play as “stick-it-about style”. Not sure if it’s bad acne or an attempt at a beard in the photo.
Other notable Scots internationalists making their card debut that year were Dundee United’s Paul Sturrock and David ‘toepoke’ Narey sporting a fine Pageboy style haircut, Motherwell’s Willie Pettigrew, whose 2 goals in 5 games is quite creditable, a rather acrobatic Paul Sturrockand finally Rangers Stewart Kennedy. The less said about his Scotland career the better methinks.
